Punjab Farmer Support Card: A Boon for Agriculture

The Punjab government’s introduction of the Farmer Support Card (previously called Kisan Card) marks a significant step towards improving the lives of farmers in the province. According to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, this initiative aims to simplify access to government schemes, promoting transparency and efficiency.

Benefits for Punjab Farmers:

  • Effortless Registration: Farmers across Punjab can easily register for the card.
  • Streamlined Access to Benefits: The card acts as a one-stop shop for availing government agricultural support programs.

Registration Process:

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has created a user-friendly digital platform for online registration. Farmers will need to provide basic information such as contact details, residency, land ownership details, irrigation methods, and farm mechanization during registration. More specific information can be found on the PITB portal.

Key Features of the Farmer Support Card:

  • Free monthly ATM withdrawals of up to PKR 30,000.
  • Free cash deposits through designated agents.
  • Free biometric cash withdrawals from agents.
  • Daily point-of-sale (POS) transaction limit of PKR 1,000.

How to Apply for the Farmer Support Card:

  1. Open an HBL Connect account (if not already done).
  2. Register with the Agriculture Department (if not already registered).
  3. Apply for the card at any HBL Konnect retailer. A fee of Rs. 500 applies for opening a biometric mobile account.
  4. Upon verification of eligibility, the card will be delivered to the Agriculture Office within 15-20 days.
  5. Collect the card after completing the final verification process.

Empowering Punjab’s Agriculture Sector:

The Farmer Support Card is a commendable initiative by the Punjab government. It empowers farmers by simplifying access to government support and financial resources. This, in turn, is expected to boost the overall agricultural sector in Punjab by ensuring timely and efficient delivery of benefits to small farmers.
